The Chemical Technician will be responsible for receiving, sampling, and quality control of containerized waste; bulking the waste based on classification, testing (i.e. pH or Ox), and chemical groups; and conducting inventory counts, label, and prepare containers for outbound shipment.

They will also be responsible for going to client sites to accurately inventory and classify the waste, and prepare the materials for shipment back to the facility.

The candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and work effectively within a team environment. Candidate must be able to pass security clearances for government contracts.

Containerized Waste QC Includes:

  • Maintain up to date inventory of onsite waste.
  • Characterization of waste based on analysis.
  • Take representative samples from containers of material.
  • Bulk and lab pack materials.
  • Shredding of non-hazardous containers of solids. (paint cans, adhesives, etc)
  • General housekeeping.
  • Load and unload trailers and box trucks.
  • Basic understanding of potential chemical reactions (compatibility).
  • Maintain up to date equipment inspections.

Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Comfortable working weekend shifts. (mainly Saturday, with 2 - 3 Sunday events each season)
  • Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset.
  • Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience operating air diaphragm pumps and bulk liquid transfer systems is an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge and use of hand tools is an asset.
  • Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Must be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment (4 seasons).
  • Must be willing and able to report to work clean shaven (respirator safety).
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to repetitively lift 40 lbs. above waist.
  • Valid G class Driver's license, with a clean driver abstract.
  • Must be able to pass security clearances for government contracts.
