Data Services Consultant

The Government of Alberta seeks a Data Services Consultant to lead and support the design and development of data services, enabling the use of data fabric to leverage data assets and provide better services to Albertans.

The successful candidate will be an IMT consultant with a diverse range of data management skill sets and experience in working in multi-faceted roles. The role may involve leading, strategizing, planning, consulting, advising, coaching, change management, project management, service design and delivery, as well as technology analysis, technical analysis, and business analysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and establishing enable data service offerings, including data platform services and data management services.
  • Providing subject matter expertise and recommendations on data platform management and establishing fully managed platform services.
  • Establishing a managed data platform service by identifying the most suitable data platform for each specific purpose.
  • Building a Federated Data Ecosystem System Strategy, tactical plan, and roadmap.
  • Creating and presenting options, roadmaps, frameworks, models, and briefings for senior executives with regards to data management services.
  • Facilitating strategic conversations to develop shared understanding and generate options for decision-making.
  • Developing baseline and ongoing outcomes, key results, metrics, and other indicators.

The consultant will also advise and coach product and platform teams throughout project lifecycles, from initial discovery and concept to production and continuous improvement.

Deliverables will be determined by the client team in conjunction with project management, and may include status reports, weekly and monthly.

The consultant will be required to provide their own computer and related equipment, with a modern version of Windows or MacOS compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and related software for remote access.

The consultant will work remotely, with occasional onsite meetings, and will be responsible for providing all necessary equipment and software.

The fixed rate quoted must be inclusive of all overhead, office space and equipment, including supplies, administrative burden, mark-up and all other costs to perform the services for the duration of the contract.

Standard working hours are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays observed by the Province.

The consultant will be required to complete all mandatory training, including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security awareness training.
