About the role

As Shopify continues to expand globally, and tax laws continue to change, we are looking to add a Tax Analyst that will help support Shopify's Tax Team in corporate tax operations and critical administrative functions.

The right person for this role will be detail-oriented, excited to lean in and learn, and highly adaptable. Our mandate is varied and constantly evolving, and as such we need folks who thrive in a fast-paced environment and genuinely enjoy solving complex problems. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills to a world-class team and help us build for the long term. A strong interest in tax, attention to detail,, and a high level of comfort with Microsoft Office/G-Suite tools is critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with tax provision and preparation of Canadian and US income tax returns, elections and disclosures
  • Assisting with data gathering for international tax returns and audit inquiries
  • Conducting tax account reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Preparing accruals and posting journal entries
  • Carrying out ad-hoc research
  • Assisting with transfer pricing calculations
  • Coordinating with various Finance and Accounting teams within Shopify including treasury, AP, and payroll on audit requests and other tax requests
  • Supporting the Tax Operations team in various tax requests for ongoing compliance and reporting obligations
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or equivalent
  • CPA in progress or recent completion of CPA preferred
  • Previous experience working with corporate tax
  • Advanced proficiency with Google sheets/MS Excel
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Flexible and adaptable nature, willing to go the extra mile to complete tasks
  • High attention to detail in a fast paced environment is key in this role
  • An interest in conducting tax research and digging deep to find answers and solutions to complex problems
