We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Activity Aide to join our team at Dundurn Place Care Centre. As an Activity Aide, you will play a vital role in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs that meet the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and cultural needs of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments to determine residents' recreation and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop and implement creative and innovative programs that cater to diverse interests and abilities.
  • Facilitate one-on-one and small group programs on the home unit, promoting social interaction and engagement.
  • Support and roll out self-directed programs, empowering residents to take ownership of their activities.
  • Evaluate and adapt programs as needed, ensuring they remain relevant and engaging.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to plan and implement special events, community-based programs, and outings.
  • Ensure residents have access to appropriate assistive devices and equipment, and provide support with equipment assessments and labeling.
  • Develop programs in Welbi, a leading activity management platform.
  • Provide residents with a calendar of programs offered by Welbi, promoting awareness and participation.
  • Ensure posters, notices, and calendars are up-to-date, attractively displayed, and easy to read.
  • Understand quality indicators used by the Home and publicly reported indicators.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with seniors, particularly those with dementia and mental health needs.
  • Knowledge of resident population and programming for dementia and mental health.
  • Ability to use imagination to engage others and promote social interaction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Computer literacy and experience with activity management platforms.
  • Second Language (Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, and Eastern European languages are an asset).
  • Music Care Room 217 Certificate would be an asset.
