The Ministry of Education, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf and Sagonaska Demonstration School seeks an experienced aquatic professional to develop and implement aquatics programs for students who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and/or have severe learning disabilities. Job Description: The successful candidate will plan, organize, and implement instructional, recreational, and training programs to meet the needs of students and lifeguarding staff. They will schedule staff to ensure safety, maintain records, and organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events. The candidate will also implement school policies and ensure the maintenance of aquatics equipment. Key Responsibilities: • Plan and implement instructional, recreational, and training programs for students and lifeguarding staff • Schedule staff to ensure safety and maintain records • Organize competitive and recreational swimming programs and special community events • Implement school policies and maintain aquatics equipment Requirements: • National Lifeguard Lifesaving Society, Lifeguard Certification • Current certification in First Aid and CPR • Courses in Non Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent Skills and Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf/hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities • Ability to facilitate effective aquatic programs to meet the needs of students • Knowledge of Ontario Public Pools regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial and Demonstration Schools policies and procedures • Good judgement and problem-solving skills • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to assist with student transfers • Willingness to work shifts Communication Skills: • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other professionals • Proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL) (or willingness to obtain)
