Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathologist Assistant II to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to pathologists and other laboratory staff in the examination and diagnosis of surgical specimens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and dissect surgical specimens for examination, including data collection and specimen receipt processes.
  • Obtain clinical history, laboratory data, x-rays, and scans as indicated.
  • Prepare tissues for microscopic examination for intraoperative consultation.
  • Perform post-mortem examinations for medical purposes, including external examination, evisceration, and dissection.
  • Maintain accurate records of work done, including worksheets, unit sheets, quality control records, and other report forms.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting.
  • Accumulate, prepare, and file designated material for continuing education and research programs.
  • Communicate needs for new or updated equipment to supervisor and assist with equipment evaluation and selection.
  • Participate in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and reagents.
  • Demonstrate procedures to staff and students and assist with orientation of staff as required.
  • Participate in safety programs and quality management or quality assurance programs.
Requirements
  • Certification or eligibility for certification with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA).
  • Graduation from an approved Master's Pathologist Assistant Program or two years' recent surgical and autopsy pathology experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
