Part-Time Bookkeeper

Armbrae Academy, a leading independent school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to manage their financial records.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy. This position is essential for ensuring the school's financial operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring expenses are within approved limits, and assist in payroll processing.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations.
  • Handle communications with vendors, process invoices, and ensure timely payments.
  • Handle communications with customers, process receipts, and ensure timely collections.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for audits and work closely with auditors to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all financial records are organized, up-to-date, and accessible for audits or reviews.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to other departments as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a school or non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
