A&W Restaurants in Victoria BC is seeking a permanent full-time Assistant Manager to start immediately at our Douglas Street location. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising overall shift and daily operations of the restaurant.

Job Summary: We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in restaurant management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Operations:
    • Balance key goals – high quality, speed of service and cost control through effective management of the operating system
    • Maintains Provincial WCB and A&W standards daily; recognizes areas for improvement and acts where improvement is needed
    • Schedules staff, including self, and assigns shift roles and responsibilities
    • Knowledge of workplace climate goals and ensuring they are practiced daily
  • Human Resources:
    • Trains, develops, confronts poor performance
    • Ensures staff safety and a healthy, motivating work environment applying daily workplace climate goals
    • Ensures Employment regulations are maintained on a daily basis
    • Documents critical incidents and reports them to key individuals
  • Financial:
    • Completes daily, weekly, and period accounting administration as directed by the manager
    • Manages inventory control, ordering, cost control and weekly inventory counts as directed by the manager
    • Applies cash policies and food cost management principles
  • Customers:
    • Ensures that cleanliness standards and safe food handling practices are met
    • Ensures high level of service to guests through efficient preparation, stocking, and staff positioning
    • Assists Manager with local store marketing
    • Manages accidents or complaints, implementing service recovery program
    • Ensures teams appearance is up to standard

Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in a restaurant supervisory role
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership
  • Expertise in all restaurant positions
  • Complete knowledge of restaurant Operating Systems and Operating Standards
  • High interest in developing others
  • Ability to do accounting and manage administrative aspects of the operation

Preferred Skills:

  • Acceptable oral and written English communication skills
  • Acceptable mathematical skills
  • Ability to train and coach others in a 'hands-on' approach; imparting knowledge
  • Competent in Microsoft 365 Business applications
  • Ability to lead meetings

Physical Demands:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods
