The təməsew̓txw Aquatic and Community Centre is a 10,644 square metre facility opening Spring 2024. This state of the art dual natatorium facility will be the first in Canada designed to achieve the Canadian Green Building Council Zero Carbon Building standard, LEED Gold standards and the first aquatic centre in North America to use a new innovative InBlue drum filtration system. The New Westminster Fitness Department has an opportunity for energetic self-starters to join its dynamic team of aquatic and fitness leaders. This position will instruct aquatic fitness classes to meet the diverse needs of customers at our pools. Under the supervision of the Fitness Leadership team, the successful candidate will instruct classes based on program requirements. Applicants will enjoy working in a fast paced environment and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

If you have the following qualifications and attributes, we want to meet you:

Completion of Grade 12 BCRPA Fitness Theory and Group Fitness Certification - Aquafit Module, CALA Group Exercise Certification, Aqua Zumba, or other Aquafit certification equivalencyCurrent Standard First CPR Level C Strong teaching and communication skills Ability to motivate othersExperience both leading shallow and deep water aquatic fitness classesDevelop and adjust fitness for patrons to ensure appropriate levelTeach group fitness classes; improve techniques; supervise and ensure the safety of patrons enrolled in registered or drop-in group fitness in the facilityPromote and market fitness programs; have a working knowledge of available programs provided within the City of New WestminsterAct professionally and answer customer questions in an appropriate mannerEnsure the fitness facility/area is a safe and inclusive, report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues to the Fitness Leadership TeamEnsure equipment is properly maintained, stored, and lockedAble to provide a verbal PAR Q to all new participants at the beginning of classes Arrange for a substitute instructor from approved lists if unable to teach assigned class; notify the Fitness Leadership Team of absence, notify a front desk attendant if lateAble to fill out accident report forms when neededBe able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
The successful candidate will work non-standard work hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
