MOBIA is currently seeking a Utility Design Engineer - P.Eng to join our team remotely.


Key Responsibilities:


The Utility Design Engineer - P.Eng is responsible for:

  • Collect, analyze and organize basic engineering data as well as evaluate and interpret field surveys.
  • Analyze pole lines for required conductor spacing, separation, clearance and physical element strength.
  • Design engineering drawings and reports to industry standards including CSA & ESA 22/04.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of junior EITs.
  • QC and review quality of pole loading calculations, designs and drawings produced by EITs.
  • Sign and seal pole loading calculations, designs and drawings produced by EITs.
  • Identify key project risk items and offer alternate design solutions to leadership team.
  • Articulate design specifications and changes to team members.
  • Identify means to streamline internal processes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years working knowledge of Aerial Communication line construction methodology and equipment
  • Completion of related post-secondary education such as a Bachelor of Engineering.
  • Must be registered with PEO as a P.Eng. Full license in good standing
  • Experience with Aerial Communications Line & pole inspections or design. Using CSA standard C22.3, No1:20 Overhead Systems, Ontario Regulation 22/04 and Hydro One Standards
  • Excellent software skills with a high attention to detail
  • Supervisory experience is preferred but is not mandatory
  • Expertise working with PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, and Quick Pole software
  • Customer Service focused individuals that take pride in delivering high quality products
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Previous experience in the electrical or telecom field designing aerial and underground networks would be an asset
  • Familiar with GIS mapping tool would be an asset
