Research Assistant - Security and Privacy

Our team at Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated Co-op Research Assistant to join our security research team. As a Co-op Research Assistant, you will participate in the research of security and privacy mechanisms in endpoint devices and contribute to the proposing, designing, and prototyping of innovative security and privacy solutions for Huawei Endpoint products.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the research of security and privacy mechanisms in endpoint devices.
  • Contribute to the proposing, designing, and prototyping of innovative security and privacy solutions for Huawei Endpoint products.
  • Produce insights of technology development in both academia and industry.
  • Work closely with other research labs worldwide and product team to optimize the solution and deliver concrete impact to real products.
Requirements:
  • MSc or PhD student in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with focus on security and privacy aspects.
  • At least mastery of one of the following:
    • Cryptography-related concepts: symmetric-key cryptography (block ciphers, MAC, and authenticated encryption), public-key cryptography (digital signatures, encryption, and key establishment)
    • Advanced cryptography: Attribute-Based Encryption, (Fully) Homomorphic Encryption, Functional Encryption, or secure deduplication.
    • Privacy enhancement technologies that are widely used such as zero-knowledge proof, secure multiparty computation, threshold signature, etc.
    • Post-quantum cryptography.
  • Authentication and authorization protocols in web and on-premises solutions such as OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, FIDO2, TOTP, OAuth 2.0, Kerberos, etc.
  • Proven proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C++/C, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with machine learning and deep learning is an asset.
