Description

The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for 2 Research Assistant(s). This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 5 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant's primary purpose is to assist the Principle Investigator and support a research team that may be national in scope through providing semi-skilled or skilled technical procedures. This will include organizing research meetings, developing and maintaining a database, analyzing and interpreting both qualitative and quantitative data, preparing knowledge tools for dissemination, preparing manuscripts for publication to assist in the goals of the research. The Research Assistant will record findings to collaborate on publications within the field of the research in both a national and international level.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Under general supervision & direction of the PI, the research assistant will be required to develop and implement original projects within the guidelines of the research
  • Eamples of tasks will include: organize research meetings, preparing knowledge tools for dissemination, develop and maintain a database, analyzing and interpreting data, prepare manuscripts for publication
  • Train other staff and students in the operation of project protocols
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with patients, healthcare providers, staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Manage own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Psychology or related field
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience within the research specialty field
  • Knowledge or experience undertaking literature reviews
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application
  • Ability to translate complex scientific information in a way that is accessible to various audiences (i.e., patients, caregivers, healthcare providers)
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), -Internet skills
  • Familiarity and demonstrated proficiency with statistical analysis and SPSS
  • Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with patients and families in an inclusive and sensitive manor
  • Knowledge or experience with patient-oriented research
