Director, Air Service Development

Lead the development of air services and cargo operations, shaping the future of YYC Calgary International Airport and driving its global presence.

About the Role

The Director of Air Service Development will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new airline routes and services, leveraging market trends and passenger data to craft and execute compelling strategies that enhance the airport's service network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for air service development, inclusive of key milestones over the 1 to 5-year period.
  • Identify and pursue air cargo and logistics development opportunities, recommending strategies to ensure the airport's competitiveness and success.
  • Research and analyze market trends, passenger data, and industry developments to identify potential new routes and services.
  • Engage with airline carriers and other stakeholders to negotiate service agreements and foster strong partnerships.
  • Create and execute strategies to enhance air service offerings, including route expansions and new service introductions.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team through effective performance management, succession planning, training, and modeling the corporate culture and values.
  • Partner with travel and tourism organizations to align their investments with existing and future markets.
  • Utilize data and analytics to track the performance of existing routes, assess market demand, and adjust strategies as needed.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8-10 years' experience in aviation, transportation, or business development.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with proven ability in identifying market trends, manipulating, and synthesizing market data.
  • Ability to find/develop unique insights from airline and passenger data.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively as required.
  • A strong strategic thinker with experience providing leading-edge thinking in airport operations.
  • Proven sales experience, including lead generation, business case development, and negotiation.
  • Proven experience in developing effective interpersonal relationships, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge of airport and airline business trends and the competitive environment.
  • Consensus builder, able to influence others in a collaborative and productive manner while leading change and taking calculated risks.
  • Strong track record building effective teams and fostering a culture of engagement.
  • Ability to influence and lead innovation and change throughout the department, as well as prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
