Community Engagement Officer – Calgary

Is this challenge for you?

Reporting to the Manager, Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Officer will work closely with the Donor Relations and Development team to provide support for internal and external engagement with communities and donors. Demonstrated experience in planning, evaluation, fundraising AND volunteer management is required. Will contribute to strategic planning and direction in order to diversify our donor pool and maximize fundraising opportunities.

Do you have what it takes?

In your present or previous position(s), others see you as an exceptional communicator with strong attention to detail and you bring proven experience cultivating new community fundraising events. You have been responsible to work with event partners to further develop and build upon existing events and collaborate with community groups and organizations with fundraising initiatives. You are experienced in understanding ROI and budgeting requirements and have multi-tasked with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously by utilizing exceptional organization skills. You have exceptional interpersonal and public speaking skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be public facing in communities and represent STARS, to donors and public; building support and awareness for STARS in Alberta;
  • Coordinating STARS presence at external community events;
  • Arrange and make presentations to various diverse audiences as required;
  • Cultivate new community fundraising events;
  • Support the efforts of the Fundraising team: Sponsorship, Donations, Programs;
  • Work with event suppliers and third-party planners as required;
  • Stewardship of donor's, always creating a positive experience and timely thank yous;
  • Assist in developing timeframes to facilitate successful completion of project activities and deliverables through the development and management of a critical path;
  • Maintaining all pertinent donor information in RE;
  • Understanding of ROI and Budget requirements;
  • Support activities assigned internally with planning;
  • Work closely with event committee's if in place;
  • Collaborate with community groups & organizations in fundraising initiatives to generate funds for STARS;
  • Ensure that community partners are adhering to STARS policies and guidelines and in accordance with STARS branding, provincial gaming and CRA guidelines;
  • Prospect communities and organizations for STARS to develop new events;
  • Work with current event partners to further develop and build upon existing events;
  • Coordinate cheque acceptance events and tours with Administration on behalf of STARS;
  • Provide presentations and thank you messaging when required;
  • Maintain accurate Raisers Edge database event records.

Critical Competencies and Requirements:

  • Experience using Raisers Edge/ and or other relational databases;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Public speaking;
  • MS office;
  • Demonstrated the ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously by utilizing successful organization skills;
  • Capable of establishing effective and professional relationships with volunteers and donors;
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work evenings or weekends;
  • Ability to work well within a committee structure;
  • Applicants will have a post-secondary education in business, marketing, communications or a related field;
  • The right combination of education and experience will be considered.
