Cenovus is currently looking for two Managers, Conventional Heavy Oil Geosciences to join our team

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Conventional Heavy Oil Geosciences, these positions will contribute to the achievement of Cenovus's production goals by improving the extraction of full value from its subsurface assets. It provides certainty that we can meet our LRPs by creating and acting on appropriate development plans.

The roles facilitate the subsurface reservoir characterization, geological & geophysical data acquisition, refinement of mapping methods in collaboration with geoscience peers and reservoir/development engineering.

In addition, these roles will build and lead geosciences multidisciplinary technical specialists to deliver quality work in a pragmatic and technically consistent way. The Managers will be responsible for geological characterization and technical assurance to methodically add to Cenovus's inventory portfolio and provide geological and geophysical support for base well and EOR optimization.

Assignment of geological area will be based on the successful candidates' background, attributes and area of strengths and may be assigned to lead either the Saskatchewan Conventional Heavy Oil Geosciences or the Alberta Conventional Heavy Oil Geosciences.

What you'll do:

  • Accountable for the stratigraphic well and 3D seismic strategy, and plans for delineation and future surveillance across the Lloyd heavy oil block in region of responsibility
  • Responsible to ensure that new well opportunities, surface pad layouts and resource estimates within the 5-year window are updated annually to support the Long-Range Plan for Cenovus
  • Drive the direction of the IWP, appraisal and new well development sequence order, improving value and minimizing F&D costs
  • Accountable for all development-related regulatory applications and associated activities to de-risk future development at their region of responsibility
  • Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team to support all evaluation, planning, and design for optimal subsurface development
  • Lead the integration of subsurface development through the "urban planning concept" to ensure an integrated and optimal subsurface well pad development layout
  • Conduct annual program lookbacks to drive continuous improvement with respect to pad development, appraisal and IWP locations
  • Lead joint venture and strategic partnerships associated with the asset
  • Support land sales, land swaps, core up activities and A&D evaluations across region of responsibility in CHO
  • Partner with the reservoir development and asset development teams to steward annual new well development programs through the stage gate process and provide key inputs into engineering design and development decisions.
  • Support reservoir development, EOR and production engineering teams to optimize existing EOR floods and scoping of expansions and new greenfield EOR plays
  • Accountable for generating scope to fulfill a catalogue of base production optimization opportunities (redevelopment, redrills, recompletions, multilateral development in existing fields)
  • Responsible for scope additions to the annual IWP focused on observation well additions to lead EOR flood optimization
  • Handle the redevelopment scope handoff from subsurface to well delivery across Saskatchewan, working closely with asset development and reservoir development to ensure opportunities are accretive to existing plans
  • Collaborate with Lloyd North and South Managers to optimally develop heated multilaterals in SK
  • Coach individuals to further develop their strengths to drive team and organizational performance
  • Cultivates innovation, continuous improvement, and creativity within the team

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Geophysics is required
  • Membership in APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required
  • A minimum of 12+ years of SAGD thermal experience is required
  • A minimum of 6 + years of either indirect or direct leadership experience
  • Advanced level skills in Geoscience Technical Competencies with depth of knowledge of multiple geoscience disciplines
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced, varied, and diverse environment with changing priorities.
  • Must be initiative-taking, self-disciplined, and able to demonstrate a high level of productivity.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to set priorities, follow-up and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company and with external contacts.
  • Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to diverse audience
