Job Summary

Kiewit is seeking a highly experienced Senior Safety Manager to join our Western Canada District team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety plans and procedures, conducting regular site inspections, and leading investigations into safety incidents.

Responsibilities
  • Safety Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to bridge and marine construction projects.
    • Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
  • Training and Education:
    • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.
    • Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
    • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
  • Incident Management and Investigation:
    • Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
    • Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to bridge and marine construction.
    • Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
  • Safety Performance Monitoring:
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
    • Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
    • Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on bridge and marine projects, or heavy civil and transportation projects.
  • Certifications: Professional certification in safety management (e.g. NCSO) preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
