Introduction:

Join the vibrant team at CGTN Documentary as a Script Editor, where you will have the opportunity to shape compelling documentaries that reach and resonate with a global audience. In this role, you will ensure that our narratives are not only engaging but also culturally enriched and aligned with our editorial standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and pitch story ideas, crafting descriptions and scripts that are logical and captivating.
  • Collaborate with video editors to ensure that the script aligns with visual content.
  • Review and copy editing translated scripts for inaccuracies and advise the Assistant Editor on necessary revisions.
  • Proactively identify and resolve inconsistencies or issues in scripts, suggesting viable solutions.
  • Anticipate potential editorial challenges and engage in discussions with producers to address these.
  • Conduct additional research to enrich content and support the script team.
  • Generate and contribute material for our website and new media platforms.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by management to support departmental goals.


Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Language Proficiency: Applicants must have native-level proficiency in English.
  • Industry Experience: Strong background in TV script writing, with a demonstrated interest in documentaries and creative writing.
  • Cultural Knowledge: Broad knowledge of and familiarity with Chinese culture.
  • Editorial Judgement: Ability to demonstrate sound editorial judgment and sensitivity in handling content.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in interpreting editorial intentions and contributing to idea generation and script resolution.
  • Handling Sensitive Information: Experience managing sensitive information with tact.
