About the Role


Reporting to the HR Lead, Talent and Operations, we are looking for a Talent Specialist to join our fast-paced and friendly Recruitment team at our corporate office in Kelowna, BC. The Talent Specialist will be responsible for full-cycle recruitment for our Cannabis Operations Facilities, and provide support when required to our corporate office.


The ideal candidate will have minimum 2 years talent acquisition experience. They will be comfortable meeting new people frequently and have an ability to determine a candidate's potential through clever questions. They should have excellent organizational skills to build and maintain a pipeline of prospective candidates.


Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Completing full-cycle recruitment for a mid-sized, multi-provincial retailer (approximately 280+ locations and growing).
  • Collaborating and integrating with business leaders in various departments and area of the business to identify roles, develop candidate profiles, and launch recruitment campaigns.
  • Understanding the timing and impact of action items, and collaborating with the HR, Payroll, and Operations teams to ensure the recruitment flows properly into the onboarding process.
  • Understanding the differences/nuances between our many retail brands and retail partners, and tailoring talent acquisition strategies accordingly.
  • Working with hiring managers to create job advertisements and campaigns to attract high-quality candidates.
  • Creating and maintaining job descriptions and advertisements, including regular upkeep on internal documents, the company career website, and external job boards.
  • Maintaining the recruitment process document, forms, and resources for the business.
  • Reviewing resumes and job application forms, coordinating, and conducting telephone pre-screens, virtual or in person interviews, and reference checks.
  • Managing, attending, and engaging with prospective candidates at job fair booths.
  • Coordinating and communicating interview schedules with hiring managers and candidates.
  • Utilizing the applicant tracking system to regularly monitor and update the status of candidates as they progress through the recruiting process.
  • Managing the candidate experience by providing timely updates and closing the loop with all candidates under consideration.
  • Employing both passive and active talent acquisition strategies to ensure desired staffing levels are always achieved, despite an evolving labor market.
  • Collecting and managing talent acquisition and talent retention data, key metrics, and internal trends to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of hiring strategies and processes.
  • Staying current on industry trends and news throughout the provinces the company operates in, to ensure talent acquisition strategies remain relevant and effective.
  • Advocating for the talent acquisition function by ensuring value-add is provided for business groups and key stakeholders, problem-solving support is quickly offered in times of staffing concerns, and training on talent acquisition strategies is provided to hiring managers where needed.
  • Working collaboratively with the internal recruitment team to ensure recruitment needs of the business are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Working collaboratively with recruitment agencies or other third-party recruitment related vendors, while negotiating contracts evaluating vendor performance, maintaining productive working relationships, and evaluating performance.
  • Presenting compensation research, analysis and recommendations to the HR team where needed. This includes collecting data on free and paid wage analysis platforms, putting together a comprehensive report, and providing recommendations.


Experience and Qualifications


  • Experience in manufacturing is a major asset, particularly in the liquor and/or cannabis industry.
  • Minimum 2 years of talent acquisition experience, as either a recruiter or retail store manager, in a high volume, fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma preferred.
  • Experience with a train-the-trainer style environment where you’re responsible for coaching and equipping others to manage talent needs independently.
  • Understanding of relevant employment legislation, human rights, and laws related to the hiring process.
  • Working knowledge of applicant tracking systems and HRIS an asset.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office and data systems an asset.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a reliable means of transportation to commute to/from the corporate office, and also travel up to 20% of the time to visit job fairs and store locations as needed.
  • Must successfully pass a basic background check.
