What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for an experienced Litigation Law Clerk, for a full-time, permanent position, to join our dynamic and growing firm in servicing our financial institution clients. The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of the mortgage enforcement power of sale process.

The ideal candidate must possess excellent organizational talent along with the ability to multi-task and prioritize. This is a good position for someone who is detailed oriented, a self-starter with excellent technical skills and has the ability to work both within a team and independent environment. The successful candidate must also have a solid working knowledge of the power of sale process and experience working with DRN/Techchom/FCT/ Litigation/Collection Highway. A great attitude and emphasis on client experience are essential.


Demonstrated proficiency in civil litigation (mainly mortgage enforcement) matters in the Superior Court of Justice including but not limited to:

  • Initial and ongoing intake of information from clients for the preparation of legal documents
  • Review and interpretation of bank loan documents, personal guarantees and security documents such as mortgages
  • Performing Teranet searches of title
  • Preparation of demand letters and statutory notices
  • Preparation of court pleadings and documents for civil litigation matters such as Statements of Claim, Motion Records, Default Judgments, Court Orders and Releases
  • Applying the Rules of Civil Procedure as related to civil litigation matters (especially as related to the service of pleadings)
  • Applying Practice Directions issued for the Superior Court of Justice for civil litigation matters
  • Use of the Civil Claims Online Portal, the Civil Submissions Online Portal (demonstrated proficiency in the use of CaseLines would also be an asset)
  • Use of Word, Nitro and Adobe as related to the preparation of court documents

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years previous experience as a Litigation Law Clerk
  • Strong knowledge of the power of sale process in Ontario
  • The ability to effectively balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary education program in a law clerk program
