Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Specialist to oversee high-level financial operations and ensure accurate financial reporting. The Senior Accounting Specialist will manage advanced accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions, prepare key financial reports, and support the Senior Finance Manager in overseeing the general ledger and monthly closing processes.


Principal Accountabilities – Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Process high-level accounts payable transactions, including managing asset-related transactions.
  • Create and manage new assets and vendors in the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly HST reports to be filed with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Investigate accounts receivable chargebacks by collaborating with customers and internal departments and recognize confirmed accounts receivable chargebacks.
  • Prepare customer statements of accounts.
  • Prepare aging payables reports, including proper backup documentation for cheque runs.
  • Set up vendor payments through online banking platforms and liaise with the bank to resolve any issues.
  • Oversee day-to-day credit card activities, ensuring proper usage and reconciliation.
  • Assist with the month-end closing process, including general ledger review, ensuring expenses have been booked to the correct accounts.
  • Compile and maintain monthly accruals and manage accrual reversals as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly cash flow and travel & entertainment expenses.
  • Provide support during the year-end process by updating and maintaining supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Train junior Finance staff and provide new hires with invoice approval process training.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial projects as assigned.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation preferred).
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a mid to large-sized organization.
  • Strong GAAP (IFRS) knowledge and a solid understanding of advanced accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (SAP experience preferred).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
