Structural Engineering Technologist

Sonroc Group Ltd.

Calgary, AB

Who We Are

Sonroc is a consulting firm, in conjunction with Sonroc Engineering, that excels in providing complete building design coordination across all disciplines. Spanning industry sectors from industrial to commercial to residential and institutional, we have had the privilege of being involved in everything from churches and schools to mixed-use buildings and high-rises to full scale commercial developments.

As a group we believe in approaching each and every project with a customer centred focus built through collaboration and quality work with respect for timelines and budget. We continue to refine and expand our services and approaches, striving to always grow and improve what we do. We aim to achieve total satisfaction for our clients. This remains our goal and focus on all our projects.

Who We Are Looking For

We are currently on the hunt for a talented individual to fill the role of Structural Engineering Technologist within our Calgary office. The successful candidate will be a highly qualified person able to assist in coordinating projects with the project team from conceptual design through project completion. This could include consultation meetings with clients, consultant coordination and project communication while at the same time helping to maintain and direct the focus of the design team to ensure specific timelines are met on multiple projects.

If you are a passionate and motivated individual with ambition to grow and enjoy working in a fun, fast-paced, collaborative office with a group of knowledgeable, creative, not-too-serious people, this might be the spot for you.

Some of the Things You Would Do (in no particular order)

  • Preparation of design, tender and working drawings using computer aided design (Revit, AutoCAD).
  • Work with clients and design team to ensure the project vision is adhered to as much as possible while respecting required timelines and budget.
  • Coordinate with architectural and other consultants to ensure potential conflicts are resolved.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Prepare presentations for meeting with jurisdictions, community reviews and/or clients as required.
  • Keep up to date on industry innovations, construction practices and products and applicable codes.
  • Provide support for site meetings and inspections as well as contract administration as required.

Some of the Things You’ll Need to Have

  • Minimum of Certificate or Diploma in Engineering Technology
  • 3+ years of registered experience with a mix of commercial, mixed-use, institutional and multi-family projects.
  • Good knowledge of and hands-on experience utilizing Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Good design skills, strong organizational skills and people skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with building codes and specifications.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Some of Things You’ll Get in Return

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Dental and extended health benefits.
  • Office closure between Christmas and New Year’s (but still get paid for the week).
  • Social events and team lunches (sorry, this is not an everyday thing).
  • Office beverages (fantastic coffee, some wine, various whiskeys as well as other options).
  • Fun, open work environment with collaborative team members.

We are intent on finding colleagues that can share our vision and fit within our culture, who have both a positive attitude and the required aptitude for success. We are not interested in know-it-alls, self-aggrandizers or egomaniacs.

We welcome applications from any suitably qualified individuals regardless of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religious beliefs, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age, physical disability, mental disability, marital status, family status, source of income, and sexual orientation. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those who have been deemed worthy shall be contacted.
