TalentCompass is hiring a Planning Forester for a manufacturing client in Dawson Creek, BC. This is a full-time permanent position and relocation to Dawson Creek is required.


Job Purpose

To manage various facets of forestry operations and forest management. May include forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, planning and wood sales/purchases


Responsibilities:

  • Manages forestry operations and forest management. May include forest management plans, forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, hauling, planning and wood sales/purchases.
  • Administration associated with job position (e.g. preparation of budgets, bid packages and contracts. Tracking and reporting of costs, and reviewing invoices
  • Contract negotiation and implementation.
  • Liaison with customers , ministries and contractors
  • Complete SFI documents and participate in SFI internal and 3rd party audits
  • Maintain compliance with all legislation and Certification
  • Assist Forester III and Area Forest Manager with budget development and forecastin
  • Participate in provincial and trade association committees
  • Coordinate and lead work teams
  • Coordinate and lead special projects as assigned
  • Manage direct reports


Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in the forestry industry
  • Preference may be given to a Registered Professional Forester with the FPBC.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry is an asset
  • Strong planning , GIS, GPS skills and ability to coordinate resource
  • Strong understanding of forecasting and budgeting skills
  • Advanced organization and communication skills
  • Knowledge of contracts and environmental regulations
