Position purpose
- To provide technical and practical support for microwave machinery's design, fabrication and commissioning.
- To develop software architecture and program to the IEC 61131-3 standard using structured text language.
- This position is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of all programming, coding, and automation-related activities to ensure excellent customer service.
- This position works with the Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams to get the entire unit to the customer on time and on budget.
Duties and responsibilities
- Control system design for industrial vacuum microwave dehydration equipment, as well as a variety of other turnkey industrial process packages.
- Maintain accurate design and verification documents using BitBucket.
- Support cross-functional project planning to ensure on-time completion of programming and commissioning.
- Design electrical and electronic systems, harness routings, and control cabinets using SolidWorks Electrical.
- Create and interpret electrical schematics and work hands-on with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Debug and commission control systems at our facility, during the system integration stage.
- Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, and sensors.
- Support field commissioning of complete vacuum microwave dehydration machines, including PLC, HMI, motor control, valves, sensors, and cleaning systems.
- Support R&D prototype development and test activities.
- Provide remote support to customers relating to automation and controls for troubleshooting production equipment, coordinating efforts and expediting repairs.
- Collaborate and communicate with a cross-functional team to help problem-solve and resolve complex issues.
- Exhibit the flexibility in taking on tasks that are not generally listed above in order to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Diploma in Engineering Technology with a specialization in Automation and/or Industrial Control or similar.
Professional Certification
- Class 5 clean driver’s license with daily access to a car.
Experience
- Experience with VFDs and PLC programming in ST language is required.
- Minimum 2 years of controls and/or automation experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Experience in programming HMI (Intermediate level) is required.
- PLC programming experience with Twin CAT III is an asset.
- Experience in Allen-Bradley or Beckhoff Automation is an asset.
- Experience with set up and query editing of SQL server is required.
- Experience using version control / repository software (intermediate level) is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics (intermediate level).
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills with colleagues regarding the understanding of PLC, HMI, Servo, Industrial Communication Network and VFD related topics.
- Strong ability to manage time and multiple priorities to achieve high-quality deliverables and avoid bottlenecks.
- Professional etiquette (both written and verbal) with co-workers, vendors, customers and individuals visiting NuWave Research.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work positively and respectfully with co-workers.
- Ability to see the big picture while not losing focus of the small details.
- Working as part of a team with minimum supervision.
- Strong team player and willingness to support the organization in tasks outside of the job description.
