My client is a well-established, privately held company with decades of experience in providing electrical contracting services across North America. They specialize in critical facilities and have recently expanded their capabilities to include mechanical contracting. With a diverse workforce, they are committed to delivering high-quality service and innovative solutions in their industry. The position will be based in their head office located in Richmond Hill.
Your New Role
As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuity and optimization of financial processes. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, you will manage all aspects of financial management, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, risk management, and compliance with both local (Ontario) and international regulations. You will partner with the executive management team to drive financial performance and operational efficiency, with a key focus on profitability, sustainable growth, and financial stability.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Lead financial functions and advise executives.

- Manage finance team and implement best practices.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee financial reports and ensure compliance.
Risk Management
- Assess and mitigate financial risks.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and data privacy.
Operational Efficiency
- Optimize financial systems and processes.
Decision Support
- Provide financial analysis for business decisions.
Union Management
- Oversee financial aspects of union agreements.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
The ideal candidate should have 7–10 years of progressive experience in senior financial management roles, such as CFO, VP of Finance, or Director of Finance, with a strong background in the construction industry. They must possess extensive knowledge of Canadian financial regulations, including tax laws, corporate governance, and industry standards, along with an in-depth understanding of Ontario labor laws, union relations, and regulatory bodies like the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). Proven experience in managing financial operations, particularly with exposure to cross-border financial regulations (Canada/US), is beneficial. The candidate should have experience managing financial processes related to union contracts and pension plans, and be proficient in financial management software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks) and MS Office applications. Strong leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to manage and motivate a diverse financial team. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are required, with a strong ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels. The candidate must have a strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex financial data, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and navigate complex challenges. Demonstrated expertise in corporate financial law, risk management, and tax planning is necessary, along with a CPA designation and a commitment to continuous professional development.
