Introduction

We are currently hiring a Project Environmental Senior Lead for our leading mining client in Vancouver and Kamloops, BC. You will be responsible for supporting the effective planning and

implementation of Environmental programs for all aspects of project execution. This is a long-term contract opportunity.


Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Responsible for the administration, coordination, and management of all environmental aspects of construction activities completed in support of the HVC-MLE project.
  • Ensure site construction activities are performed in accordance with regulatory permit conditions, Policies and Standards and environmental best practices.
  • Responsible for contractor management (including planning and supervision) for construction environmental monitoring programs and select construction activities.
  • Development and review of project/contractor environmental work plans, associated monitoring programs and environmental risk management processes.2
  • Actively support overall site leadership on environmental issues and lead environmental inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Support development and review of project regulatory permit applications, including required management plans and baseline monitoring programs.
  • Contribute to the development of broader Project Development Group environmental performance framework and guidance documents and associated procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring for the project site leadership team.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting as required.
  • Become an active member of the project emergency response team, provide knowledge and guidance prior to, during and after an emergency response situation.
  • Manage the day to activities for the project environmental team, which includes the EPCM Contractor environmental staff.
  • Ensure compliance to the project site monitoring plan.
  • Ensure appropriate infrastructure is in place to best manage all environmental aspects for the project.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of project site environmental training.
  • Communicate and educate environmental commination’s to all project site personnel, via posters, toolbox talks, site memos, etc.
  • Develop and deliver monthly project site environmental newsletter, topics to be specific to the project site risk and concerns.


Requirements

  • A certificate degree in an Environmental Science.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in construction, mine operation or other heavy civil construction.
  • Operational experience with environmentally sensitive activities, including in-stream works would be an advantage.
  • Strong computer skills (especially with Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Certification by an applicable professional body would be an advantage.
  • Strong understanding that Safety is a core value, that our vision is for everyone to go home safe and healthy every day and to embrace the Courageous Safety Leadership culture.

Advanced level:

  • Ability to design and introduce environmental programs and documents. Provides training and support to staff (all levels and functions).
  • Ability to take courageous decisions to stop or defer work if environmental conditions are deemed unsatisfactory.
  • Ability to proactively support resolution of environmental risk and communities’ issues.
  • Ability to consistently follow the occupational health & safety, environmental and communities’ policies and practices and demonstrate broad HSEC leadership to others.
  • Ability to design, implement, participate in and review an audit/peer review process targeting identified environmental performance gaps and controls used in the mitigation of high-risk activities.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate management review process.
  • Advanced to in depth-level:
  • Ability to recognize environmental hazards and risks associated with differing climates, terrains, habitats and cultures throughout the stages of project development, and recommends appropriate risk mitigation approaches.
  • Ability to continuously seek opportunities to recognize environment and communities’ hazards and works to manage associated risks in the workplace and local surroundings.
