Job Description

We currently have an opening for a Water Quality Scientist in our Edmonton office. In this role, you will support our team of aquatic scientists on a variety of projects including water quality, limnology, aquatic toxicology, biogeochemistry and regulatory compliance assessments across Alberta, BC and Canada's North. You will work under the mentorship of senior aquatic scientists, technical specialists, and other experts in their field, and collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines.

What you will be doing:

  • Managing projects related to water quality, including budgeting, assigning tasks, supervising work, and interacting with clients.
  • Analyzing, managing and interpreting water quality and related data sets.
  • Leading and contributing to the preparation of high quality scientific and technical reports.
  • Designing and implementing aquatic field programs. Participation in field programs is a requirement of the role.
  • Collaborating within inter-disciplinary project teams.
  • Assisting in the preparation of proposals and contributing to other business development activities.
Job Requirements

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., environmental sciences, aquatic biology, limnology, biogeochemistry); graduate degree (M.Sc.) is an asset.
  • 5+ years post-graduation aquatic science experience in environmental consulting, monitoring or applied research, including field experience.
  • Registration with a professional organization in Alberta (e.g., P.Bio., P.Geo., or P.Chem.), or eligibility for registration.
  • Experience and capability working near moving water, in a boat, and in remote locations.
  • Strong time management and organizational ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and highly competent in managing, analyzing, and graphing data using MS Excel.
  • Experience using R programming language, in hydrometric monitoring and studying lake ecosystems is an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence.

What we offer:

  • A centrally located office in the heart of downtown Edmonton, that is easily accessible by both bus and LRT, and steps away from Edmonton's beautiful river valley.
  • A hybrid work environment that allows for a combination of working from home and in the office. Competitive salary and benefits, including a fitness allowance, company-matching pension program and parental leave top-up program.
  • Ongoing support for your growth and development, including a formal Professional Development program, mentoring programs, training opportunities, professional designation support, and a Young Professionals Group.
  • An on-site fitness center accessible to all staff, with full amenities.
  • Discounted rates at a neighboring childcare facility.
  • An active Social Club that promotes social activities in and outside the office and offers subsidized tickets to local events like Taste of Edmonton.
