Job Overview:The Youth Leadership Coach is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Youth Leadership Program.

The Youth Leadership Program's primary goal is to work with young parents to strengthen their leadership skills, enhance their sense of identity and belonging, and support their engagement with the wider community.

The program includes delivery of the Peers Educating-Peers program across Edmonton with young parents as co-facilitators, coordinating Speaker Series, developing and delivering group programming within Terra Centre, and connecting participants with volunteer opportunities in the community.


Job Conditions:


This is a full time (35 hours/week) with flexible hours Monday through Friday, 1-2 evenings/week, and the occasional weekend based on the needs of families and staff and to support day/evening programming.

The position will be working out of the Terra Centre located at Street and Braemar School located at a Street.


Key responsibilities:

  • Seeks to build supportive and responsive relationships with participants utilizing a traumainformed and resiliency perspective.
  • Develop and deliver group and 1:1 programming to increase leadership skills in participants with a focus on communication, public speaking, selfawareness, selfregulation, and boundaries.
  • Works with participants to create personalized leadership goal plans that align with the components of the Youth Leadership program.
  • Cofacilitate Peers Educating Peer presentations in junior/senior high schools and community agencies with Youth Leadership participants. Taking a lead in building awareness of the Peers-EducatingPeers programming.
  • Support participants with accessing volunteer activities within and outside of Terra. This includes working with community resources and other Participant Program staff to coordinate scheduling, provide training, and dayof support.
  • Engage participants in opportunities to represent Terra internally and within the community.
  • Participate effectively in community and interagency functions as a Terra representative.
  • Serve as a strong advocate on behalf of Terra and its young parents.
  • Seek opportunities for collaboration and other methods of working cooperatively with other community agencies and partners to meet the needs of participants.
  • Develop and maintain an effective community referral network and resource base.
  • Conduct interaction with participants in a professional manner, maintaining healthy professional boundaries in all participant interactions.
  • Complete monthly statistical information and collect outcomes measures data and evaluation activities as required
  • Adhere to Terra's policies and procedures and to the professional code of ethics of applicable professional associations
  • Work to build an integrated service team and consult with the team to ensure participant needs are addressed
  • Positive contributions to conversations during Community of Practice and Team Unit Meetings, Internal and External committees and resource fairs to increase staff awareness and capacity
  • Plan and facilitate day and evening group programming across all Terra sites and in the community to support partnerships and collaborations programming
  • Expand personal sensitivity and knowledge regarding different cultures

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, or Child and Youth Care/Worker
  • Experience providing life skills coaching and training
  • Experience working with low income and marginalized participants, including people facing multiple barriers
  • Experience in public speaking, employment readiness training, curriculum development, and group facilitation

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth
  • Knowledge of issues associated with people impacted by mental illness and substance abuse
  • Knowledge of referral services and supports within the Edmonton community and/or the ability to research and connect with community resources
  • Knowledge of child/youth development and childparent attachment
  • Understanding and knowledge of the issues pregnant and parenting young people face
