GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Communications, the Digital and Graphics Technician provides specialized

technical work preparing audio/visual, web, digital and print graphic material for various departments at the District

of Squamish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the success of our team and creation of our thriving community by fostering the District of

Squamish corporate values:
Respect, Integrity, Connection and Progress.

  • Plans, designs and creates a wide variety of marketing, promotional, and communications materials for print
and web.

  • Monitors and updates the District of Squamish website.
  • Supports the evolution, design and content management of the Intranet.
  • Assists in creating posts for social media platforms following communications plans and brand standards.
  • Identifies problems or shortcomings regarding the design and setup of information and develops and
implements solutions and improvements.

  • Exercises independence of judgment and action on the artistic and technical aspects of the work in achieving
desired results within departmental guidelines.

  • Assists in producing promotional and informational material on local government policies, programs and
activities, including electronic newsletters, digital and print advertisements, collateral, video, motion

graphics and reports.

  • Maintains databases, spreadsheets, project records, computer files and tracking systems.
  • Assists in settingup photo shoots, displays and promotions.
  • Maintains close contact with departmental staff while preparing graphic material and ensures cost
effectiveness of completed work.

  • Prepares and maintains a variety of manual and computer files related to the work.
  • Maintains courteous and positive public relations with customers, including residents of the community,
representatives of organizations and other District staff, by delivering quality customer service.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in gathering, analyzing, producing and
disseminating public information related to Local Government activities, programs, services and objectives.

  • Knowledge of District policies, services, practices, plans and objectives and broad knowledge of the
community.

  • Possesses strong skills with current Adobe Creative Suite including (but not limited to) lnDesign, Photoshop,
Illustrator, Acrobat, Premiere Pro, and AfterEffects and experience in production of graphics for web and social

media environments.

  • Videoediting and encoding capabilities.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to be creative and flexible in a team
environment.

  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills; must possess the ability to perform multiple duties
simultaneously with deadlines and the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to design, layout, and produce web content, publications, collateral material, social media graphics and
video, and related documents using a variety of software.

  • Ability to operate photographic equipment.
  • Ability to establish priorities, plan projects and schedule resources.

REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • 1 to 2 years' minimum related experience in communications including web, social media, graphic design, and
audio/video media.

AND

  • Completion of a twoyear accredited technical diploma program in Graphics Design, Communications,
Marketing, Social Media Marketing Public Relations or a related field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience
