Cystic Fibrosis Canada has transformed the landscape of cystic fibrosis by advancing research and care, significantly increasing life expectancy. Established in 1960 by concerned parents, the organization has evolved into a prominent entity uniting individuals affected by cystic fibrosis, caregivers, volunteers, researchers, healthcare experts, government bodies, and donors. Together, we strive to revolutionize lives through treatment, research, information, and support. Despite notable advancements, the battle continues as children with cystic fibrosis still face a 50% chance of surpassing their 50s. Our mission is to persist, to push boundaries, ensuring all individuals with cystic fibrosis can embrace everything life offers.

THE ROLE AND IMPACT:

The Bilingual Program Lead - Healthcare & Community Relations will contribute to the realization of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Canada's strategic objectives concerning healthcare and advocacy. This vital role involves overseeing Cystic Fibrosis Canada's helpline for community information and support, collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance the well-being of Canadians living with CF, assisting them in accessing evidence-based healthcare and essential medications, fostering collaboration, and spearheading projects within the healthcare and advocacy realms. Particularly, emphasis will be on supporting underserved communities, particularly in the Quebec region, mandating proficiency in both French and English.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH:

Healthcare program

  • Aid in formulating and executing Cystic Fibrosis Canada's healthcare strategic plan and program, overseeing all related activities and outcomes.
  • Lead strategic projects encompassing the establishment of national care standards, health guidelines, disease impact assessments, mental health strategies, etc.
  • Engage clinicians by co-leading various discipline-oriented working groups and meetings.
  • Drive community and stakeholder involvement, liaising with patients, families, caregivers, and the CF medical community.
  • Contribute to the development of program reports, resources for patients/caregivers, and healthcare professional aids.
  • Coordinate healthcare inquiries and collaborate with internal and external partners to address them.
  • Provide logistical support for stakeholder gatherings and events.

Information and support program

  • Manage Cystic Fibrosis Canada's Helpline inquiries promptly and empathetically, addressing requests from individuals with cystic fibrosis and their caregivers.

Advocacy

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of Cystic Fibrosis Canada's government relations and advocacy initiatives.
  • Organize volunteer and community engagement activities, webinars, and exchanges, focusing on enhancing volunteer involvement in Quebec.
  • Supervise the National Advocacy Network (NAN) members, emphasizing building volunteer capacity in the province.
  • Manage the NAN Facebook Group, collaborate with the Government and Community Relations Director and Marketing and Communications team on social media and content strategy.
  • Handle advocacy inquiries and engage with stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Cultivate relationships with NAN and community members, incorporating their narratives into various platforms.
  • Support lobbying efforts at governmental levels and assist in preparing government briefing materials and submissions.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Undergraduate degree in Health/Life Sciences, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, or related field (Required)
  • Over 4 years of community engagement experience, preferably in the medical field or with patients of chronic/rare diseases (Required)
  • Familiarity with adult learning and facilitation methodologies (Required)
  • Understanding of Canadian or provincial healthcare systems (Preferred)
  • Proven track record in communicating advocacy endeavors effectively to inspire community members (Preferred)
  • Experience in training and supporting volunteers and staff in the charitable sector (Preferred)
  • Experience working with marginalized populations (Preferred)
  • 3+ years of project coordination/management experience, Professional Management Professional PMP (Preferred)
  • Proficient in managing multiple healthcare projects and providing support to senior leaders (Required)
  • Knowledge of clinical guidelines/quality standards development and implementation (Preferred)
  • Skilled in conducting basic qualitative and quantitative data analyses (Essential)
  • Ability to collaborate within a matrix team environment (Essential)
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in French and English (Essential)
  • Exceptional relationship-building, customer service, and problem-solving capabilities (Essential)
  • Fluency in French (Required)
