It's a great time to become part of Golden Life as we are growing our seniors housing, care, and services across western Canada.

We are in search of a skilled casual Recreation Therapist to join the team at Evanston Grand Village in Calgary, AB, and take charge of our recreational services. The ideal candidate will play a key role in implementing a variety of social, recreational, and therapeutic programs to enhance the emotional, physical, and social wellness of the residents.

Our Recreation Therapist will supervise the recreational staff and contracted service providers, drive initiatives, and ensure program goals are met.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Designing, implementing, promoting, and monitoring social, recreational, and therapeutic programs to cater to the individual and group needs of residents
  • Creating and distributing communication tools such as facility newsletters, posters, notices, and activity schedules to keep residents informed about programs and events
  • Improving programming and fundraising by managing the volunteer program, optimizing resources, and providing leadership to staff and volunteers
  • Leading and guiding staff and volunteers involved in recreational services, organizing events, training, and evaluating resident participation
  • Heading the Resident Council Committee to gather resident input on programming and event planning
  • Engaging in Managed Risk Agreements negotiation and tenant assessments
  • Assuming a leadership role in integrating new residents
  • Performing related tasks using a personal computer and word processing software

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Completion of a Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation
  • 2+ years of experience in a seniors' healthcare environment
  • Essential program planning experience
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills in delivering recreation services
  • Proficiency in group-based fitness instruction and therapy
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, and relationship-building abilities
  • Ability to interact with residents in a compassionate and patient manner
  • Physical capability to fulfill the job duties
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid Class 4 Driver's License
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Clearance of a Vulnerable Sector – Criminal Record Check
  • Negative TB screening and immunization record
