Role:

We are looking for three enthusiastic individuals to join our Campus Based Treatment Centre locations in High Prairie Edmonton and Lethbridge respectively who have a drive and passion for advancing child intervention practices and outcomes for Indigenous children families and communities

In this unique role you will report to the Manager of Campus Based Treatment Centre providing you an opportunity to demonstrate your leadership qualities and abilities by providing sound advice and direction in supporting regional strategies and dialogue with First Nations and Metis communities leadership where appropriate and others from a place of understanding and appreciation of root issues and moving forward in partnership with joint approaches and healing outcomes for Indigenous children families and communities

Responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Support and implement practice/policy improvements at a Regional level Practice improvements will be connected to provincial directions and knowledge in working with Indigenous children and families and Child Intervention Practices.
  • Support children and families by assisting and/or coordinating connections with Elders language resources cultural events history family and/or community.
  • Coordinate facilitate and record a centralized Meaningful Involvement with Indigenous Communities in their respective area Region.
  • Support staff in training and development and engage staff in developing plans and strategies that support the rights and entitlements of Indigenous Children and families This includes ISC registration Band Membership Per Capita Distribution and trust.
  • Model an appreciation for Indigenous protocols cultural practices ceremonies and language to support successful outcomes for children receiving Child Intervention Services.
  • In a strength based approach to practice you will seek to shift the culture of the organization away from identifying problems and risk related cultural family and community connection and instead identifying and leveraging the strengths in the child's family community and culture that already exists to achieve better outcomes.
  • Support and monitor continuous improvement of practice and processes as the organization undergoes systemic and cultural changes.
  • Skills related to prioritization organization and monitoring is an asset.
  • Occasional travel may be required in Alberta and out of province if the need arises.

Qualifications:

Education:


Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 2 years of related experience; or a related degree and 4 years of related experience or a related diploma and 5 years of related experience.


Related education can include:

Bachelor of Social Work, Social Work Diploma, Bachelor of Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Law Degree, Addictions/Counseling Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, and Criminal Justice Diploma.


The following equivalencies maybe considered:

  • Master of Social Work and 1 year related experience; or
  • Related certificate and 6 years related experience

Additional assets:

  • Previous leadership experience (formal or informal).
  • Knowledge/ability to speak an indigenous language.
  • Knowledge and ability to draw upon related community development and child intervention experience.
  • Actively engage with First Nations community cultural traditions and practices and awareness of protocols and customs.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous communities and DFNA partners.
