Description:


As a member of the Quality and Operations team, the QA Lab Supervisor is responsible to ensure that all lab testing is completed in accordance with internal and external requirements (this shall include but not limited to scheduling, reporting and fiscal management).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Quality and R&D laboratory personnel including review, training and approval of the work schedule and managing annual performance review cycle.
  • In conjunction with the Quality Manager, set and monitor the yearly metrics and goals in relation to the Quality and R&D Labs' performance
  • Perform monthly safety audits either personally or through direct reports
  • Responsible for developing accurate and timely quotes for internal work
  • Provide laboratory analysis problem solving support as required for new and current programs
  • Support Product Development Specialists for sample submission to the Customer base (PPAP / validation testing, OEM submission packages)
  • Provide analytical feedback to Production, Process Engineering, PDS and Quality Engineering as part of the setup, ongoing inspection activity, or process improvements within the manufacturing environment
  • As necessary, program and operate laboratory equipment to support the needs of the testing requirements
  • Responsible to ensure that the gauge calibration system is consistent with the requirements of the Quality Management System
  • Perform inhouse gauge verification services (through direct reports)
  • As required, participate in APQP activities as they pertain to Quality and/or R&D laboratory requirements
  • Review outgoing CofA's and internal test packages (PPAP, Validation Testing, OEM submissions) for accuracy prior to the packages being released to our internal and external Customer base.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Test Activity Packages for all launch, internal, and engineering changes
  • Identify, notify and record all problems related to the testing process
  • Evaluate quality control statistics
  • Modify Quality Work Instructions as needed
  • Act as a role model for CGT's safety programs and procedures, and reinforce where necessary
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Initiate, develop and maintains a 5S system
  • Ensure CGT labs are clean, organized, and safe
  • Ability to work with staff in a positive manner
  • Strong communication skills (active listening, sharing of pertinent/necessary information, ability to address critical and sensitive topics, etc).

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Minimum 5 years working in a Quality or R&D lab supervisory role in an Automotive environment or suitable related experience
  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with ISO / TS standards, maintenance and implementation; alternatively familiar with CGT work instructions and procedures
  • Familiar with ISO 17025 considered an asset
  • SPC background considered an asset
  • Knowledge of SAP in a work environment
  • Team player with exceptional organizational skills

Education

  • Must have a minimum Grade 12 education coupled with required minimum experience
  • College/University grad preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Usually work in plant and lab environments, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to nonstandard workplaces.
  • Chemical plant environment. Some testing protocols may require the use of chemicals.
  • Use of PPE on a regular basis.
  • Standard work week rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities may be required.
  • Domestic and international travel may be required.

  • Constant standing, walking
  • Minor to moderate lifting, bending, push/pull requirements
