Reporting to the Crime Prevention and Community and Well-Being Advisory Committee, the Community Safety and Well-being Coordinator will serve as a resource, information gathering and advisory body to Council on matters relating to crime prevention and community well-being.


Key tasks of the coordinator(s):

  • The key tasks include recruiting the appropriate agencies/organizations and individuals to become members of an advisory committee. This should include multisectoral representation and people with knowledge and experience in responding to the needs of community members.

The Community Safety and Well-Being Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate community participatory processes, including problem solving, visioning and strategic planning and implementation of upstream prevention strategies in support of the implementation of the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
  • Support the creation of opportunities for joint planning and decision making between community members and other organizations who are working towards addressing the social, economic, and community determinants of community safety.
  • Build trust and relationships internally and externally to organize and coordinate efforts.
  • Identify and define needs, resources, and opportunities for integrated planning.
  • Conduct research and analysis to develop and recommend project frameworks and policy directions.
  • Consult with a variety of organizations, the public, workplaces, support groups, and to build partnerships with business owners and operators and associations with respect to neighborhood and community activities.
  • Plan events, coordinate, and deliver activities to hold community conversations to support and advance the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and create detailed work plans, databases, and tracking processes as required.
  • Ensure all stakeholders are appropriately consulted, represented, and involved.
  • Design and conduct program evaluations using a methodology that is meaningful to both the community, stakeholders and Council.
  • Work collaboratively and in consultation with the Indigenous Relations Specialist
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in intersectoral linkages, community engagement, and advocacy.
  • Experience and skill in peoplecentered community development with diverse racialized and
Indigenous communities focused on needs assessment, program planning, resource development, facilitation, and project management.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of intersectionality and social determinants of health (SDOH) on health and wellness.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation.
  • Ability to conduct presentations to community organizations, neighborhood groups, government committees, and at public meetings.
  • Negotiation, facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with acumen in relationshipbuilding and organizing, preparing, and delivering communications for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to write reports for public information, funders, and Council.
  • Ability to create clear, concise funding proposals, teaching tools, professional reports, press releases and community newsletters, to share complex data and research information in manner that is accessible.
  • Knowledge and skill in project management, driving and achieving results, and organizing and prioritizing work, with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Research, assessment, and evaluation skills to collect, analyze and report on assigned projects
  • Ability to work independently to assess and fulfill requirements for project completion.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, serving a wide range of individuals and community groups with varied interests.
  • Knowledge and skill interacting with municipal, provincial, and federal agencies.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office.
