Boyle Street Community Services (BSCS) is a values-driven organization that believes our clients are the experts in their own life.

Your job will be to foster innovation with your team alongside our clients.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Establishing therapeutic relationships with individuals who live with mental health concerns in the community and working to ensure their needs are met.
  • Supports and connects with individuals and families in the Ubuntu Centre and helps them navigate services that will serve their basic needs (income, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, legal, identification, and medical services)
  • Provides members with mental wellness tactics, workshops, techniques, and skills that are effective, longlasting and stimulating
  • Aid in the recovery of mental trauma and mental health while reshaping mindsets and attitudes effected by poor lifestyles
  • Delivers crisis intervention as needed, including risk assessment and followup until the situation has stabilized
  • Assesses clients' issues and needs; assists and supports clients to develop a case management plan and to take positive steps to achieve their goals
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive written documentation of all clientrelated interactions in accordance with Boyle Street's standards for reporting
  • Provides guidance, supervision, support, and evaluative feedback for student practicums
  • Be prepared to respond to overdoses and other related crisis by following the proper processes and protocol
  • Connects and collaborates with other members of BSCS/Ubuntu teams and programs as well as other external partners and supports in the community
  • Contributes to the safety and general environment of the building and surroundings at Boyle Street, including using Conflict Resolution and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques when appropriate
  • Attends team and community service meetings and any required trainings or professional development
  • Inspire and motivate clients to take charge of their selfcare and mental wellbeing
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a relevant field (Social Work, Psychology) and/or relevant work experience
  • Good working knowledge of Service Alberta, Alberta Human Services, Alberta Health Services and Alberta Justice and Solicitor General procedures, policies, guidelines, and practices
  • Ability to use effective motivational tactics and cognitive behavioural techniques that can be used to address the mental health needs of children and families
  • Creativity and enthusiasm will be beneficial for workshops and presentations
  • Strong advocacy and case management skills
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with individuals while focussing on their quality of life, supporting the cocreation of case plans, and addressing identified goals and needs that relate to the stability of their mental health
  • Able to work in a stressful environment and deal with difficult, sometimes distressed clients, including adults, children, and youth
  • Mental Resiliency and an aptitude for problem solving will be beneficial when working in an environment with challenges and risks
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends, and services particularly, but not limited to the urban aboriginal population is essential

  • Valid First Aid certificate required
  • Police Information Check kept up to date (every 3 years)
  • Child and Youth Intervention record kept up to date (every 3 years)
