Job Summary

Reporting to the Coordinating Principal of Social-Emotional Learning and Well-Being - Student Support, you will be part of the Mental Health Resource Team, working under the Coordinator of Student Well-Being.

You will be clinically supervised by the Managers of Social work or within the department of Psychology.

With your solid understanding of issues facing diverse communities represented in the Peel District School Board, including but not limited to African/Black/Afro-Caribbean, Indigenous, 2SGLBTQ+, disabled/persons with disabilities, Muslim and Sikh identities, you will provide services and support to students in a variety of ways that identify and address barriers to the well-being of underserved populations of students.


Key Responsibilities

As a part of the mental health team you will integrate equity, anti-racism and anti-oppressive practices into all professional services with a mindset to work collaboratively with families in the Peel community.

As Mental Health Clinicians, you will provide professional development related to mental health awareness and literacy to a variety of PDSB staff, including developing capacity in staff to understand lived experience and identities of under-served students; treat individuals and groups of students who are identified as needing your professional expertise; support to the PDSB's suicide prevention, intervention and post prevention initiatives; provide evidence-informed school based interventions for students generally at the Tier 2 level of need; partner with school based social workers and Psychoeducational Consultants in identifying and intervening with students who have mental health concerns; collaborate with community agencies and advocacy groups; translate your superior clinical knowledge of psycho social issues into the educational system to improve the mental health and well-being for students; coordinate and collaborate with other school staff across multiple disciplines to support individuals and families; use your experience working with individuals from cultural communities to provide culturally safe, reflective, relevant and affirming care, while being mindful of and responsive to other intersecting identities; as well as, perform other social work/psychologist duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field

  • Good understanding of Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superb collaborative skills to work in a professional environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or environment
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated commitment of the principles of antioppression and antiracism are essential to the role
