A Community Service Operator's success is measured by their ability to provide service in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, the Operator will:

  • Communicate respectfully and inclusively with diverse community members
  • Navigate a variety of challenging and complex customer interactions respectfully while ensuring the safety of the passengers at all times
  • Safely operate a 24 passenger bus, in highdensity rush hour traffic, in all weather conditions
  • Follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and ETS regulations and standards
  • Follow maps to meet timed schedules while transporting passengers on predetermined routes
  • Monitor fares and provide transit information
  • Check the bus for operational readiness before entering into service
  • Perform scheduled daily assigned work that includes a variety of shifts, including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Contribute to Edmonton Transit Service's professional image by demonstrating responsible and ethical behaviour in all activities

Qualifications:

  • Grade 11 or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • License Requirements:
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or provincial equivalent (nonprobationary & nongraduated)
  • Applicants must have held a valid license for the last five (5) consecutive years
  • Driver's Abstract Requirements:
  • MUST provide a minimum five (5) year Driver's Abstract meeting all of the following criteria:
  • No more than three (3) demerits (or equivalent) and no more than one (1) moving violation/conviction within the last five (5) years
  • No past or pending license suspensions or Criminal Code suspensions or convictions within the last five (5) years
  • Nondriving related suspensions of registry services, if indicated, must show a reinstatement date
  • Demerits reduced by attending a defensive driver training course will not be accepted
  • A five (5) year Driver's Abstract must be obtained within 30 days of the Driving Assessment appointment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, inclusively and respectfully with diverse members of the public
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with the public in a position that requires excellent interpersonal, problemsolving, conflict resolution and independent decisionmaking skills
  • Sufficient ability to understand, speak and write English to comprehend Edmonton Transit policies, effectively communicate with the traveling public and report on incidents involving safety and/or service. Knowledge and ability to navigate through languages other than English
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in a variety of traffic and emergency situations
  • Excellent map reading skills with the ability to adapt quickly to frequently changing schedules
  • Knowledge of local/provincial traffic laws and regulations
  • Basic computer skills to engage with onboard navigation

  • Preemployment medical examination and a Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Selected applicants must successfully obtain an Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's Class 4 written Knowledge Test and Alberta Air Brakes Certification at their own expense before training:
