Purpose

  • Supports the global business strategy and ensures that our global HR diversity, equity & inclusion strategies and programs align with the overall goals, values and Human Resources philosophies of the Bank and leads the Bank's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) centre of expertise and inclusion culture, including human rights and social justice.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Participates as a strategic partner and advisor to Scotiabank's senior management teams, contributing to the development of short
- and long-term diversity, equity & inclusion strategies; takes a lead role in determining the major HR implications of those strategies, balancing business perspective with the needs of individual employees and alignment with the Bank's and HR objectives.

  • Identifies and leads the implementation of diversity, equity & inclusion programs, influencing strategic change, by:
  • Maintaining an awareness of future/emerging diversity, equity & inclusion trends and best practices in HR and through ongoing liaison with HR peer within and outside the Scotiabank Group;
  • Conducting initial diagnostic assessments/needs analyses of business objectives;
  • Developing and championing comprehensive recommendations for solutions to Executives and senior management teams;
  • Assigning resources, establishing project leaders and core teams, defining roles, tasks and expectations; and,
  • Monitoring diversity, equity & inclusion programs and processes to ensure they meet the stakeholders' future needs and deliver intended outcomes.
  • Lead Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) center of expertise by providing endtoend design, development and implementation of an integrated DEI strategy, roadmap.
  • Partner with senior business leaders, Employee Resources Groups and Inclusion Councils to enable and create a diverse and inclusive culture for all employees, customers, and the many communities that we serve.
  • Proactively identify DEI strategies to deliver on Scotiabank's Employment Equity Plan commitments by 2023/2025 (and beyond) and ensure connection of key partners across the Bank to achieve this.
  • Advance strategic objectives across Talent, Customer and Communities through professional development initiatives, brand, marketing & communications, and external networks to accelerate inclusion (i.e., build a stronger external presence with communities and key global, national or local partners for maximum impact).
  • Manage relationship with Canadian Human Rights Commission to report on equity commitments.
  • Directs daytoday activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.
  • Communicate the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Business or Communications degree or related discipline
  • Minimum 510 years of relevant business experience working with global organizations
  • Strong project and change management skills
  • Intellectual curiosity around 'bestinclass' DEI practices (inside and outside the Bank)
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and results
  • Experience building and fostering strategic partnerships and leading a team of thought leaders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening, facilitation and presentation skills; to collaborate with all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of total rewards programs and human resources policies, practices and standards.
  • Passionate about promoting inclusion, diversity, equity and justice.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects/changing priorities concurrently under tight timelines and with multiple stakeholders
