Purpose of the Role:
Working directly under the Building Operations Supervisor, the Building Operator is responsible for maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment, including laboratory equipment, chillers, boilers, and air handlers. This role supports the Forensic Service and Coroner's Complex by ensuring the provision of essential services.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Monitors and maintains mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handlers, and pumps to supply chilled water, steam, hot water, and air conditioning.
- Manages the water treatment plant, medical vacuum, and RO/DI system.
- Performs scheduled maintenance as per the 'Concept' maintenance system guidelines.
- Supervises third-party contractors to ensure safe and compliant operations.
- Regulates equipment and conducts visual, audio, and physical inspections.
- Collaborates with the Quality Management system.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Participates in educational programs and in-service training sessions.
- Attends necessary meetings.
- Is on call as per schedule and may work weekends or overtime occasionally.
- Completes tasks professionally and efficiently.
- Communicates work status with client groups promptly.
- Adheres to occupational health and safety regulations.
- Responds to Fire Alarms as part of the fire response team.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by superiors.
Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting is advantageous.
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and interpersonal abilities are essential.
- Proficient in computer operations.
- Hold a Certificate of Building Environmental Systems - Operator Class One & Two, SMT, Stationary Engineer 4th/5th Class, or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a commercial, laboratory, or industrial environment.
- Able to interpret mechanical/electrical blueprints.
- Familiar with relevant safety regulations and codes.
- Computer literate with knowledge of CMMS as a bonus.
