THE ORGANIZATION:


Take a Hike empowers youth who experience vulnerability to change the trajectory of their lives with a full-time mental health and emotional well-being program embedded in an alternate education classroom.

Take a Hike engages youth with intentional, continuous clinical counselling, experiential land-based learning, and community.

Our public school district partners provide high quality education, and together, we empower youth with the skills and resilience they need to graduate high school, build healthy relationships, and achieve success - however they define it.


THE OPPORTUNITY:


The Development Specialist plays an integral role in maintaining our CRM and other information systems that support Take a Hike's community of donors and the Take a Hike Development Team, (Philanthropy & Fundraising, Government Relations, and Marketing & Communications).

The position requires excellent customer service and foundational experience in database administration, ideally with Salesforce, including:

donor record keeping, donation processing, donor stewardship tasks, event data tracking and support, and assisting the Development Leadership Team with research, meeting logistics and the efficient operation of the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Management & Administration

  • 40%
  • Regular maintenance of our CRM system (Salesforce) including account, campaign and gift management, recording donor notes and actions, and scheduling engagement tasks
  • Uphold data quality and confidentiality through the design and implementation of regular data hygiene practices; creating process documentation and providing team training as needed
  • Create custom reports, mailing lists and dashboards that analyze donor data and support the fundraising portfolio leads in making strategic donor engagement decisions
  • Ensure gift recognition and stewardship policies, procedures and practices are consistently tracked in Salesforce and with integrity
  • Research, plan and integrate other processing platforms for special events or fundraising campaigns, such as Trellis and Fundraise Up, ensuring effective integration of data into Salesforce
  • Design, develop, and modify data infrastructure to accelerate the processes of data analysis and reporting
  • Make operational and system efficiency recommendations to the Development team, streamline data processes, and create automated workflows when possible
  • Stay informed and engaged with the nonprofit Salesforce community to develop and grow generative connections and learnings for the organization
Donation Processing & Reconciliation

  • Prepare and process acknowledgements letters, tax receipts, and other correspondence to donors; working with Development staff to update templates, and engagement plans
  • Responsible for the administration of daily, online and monthly giving including data entry, gift processing, tax receipting and donor follow up and information.
  • Processes gift transactions using all methods of payment including cash, cheques, credit card, debit, electronic fund transfer, as well as responsibility for online platforms such as CHIMP, Benevity, and Canada Helps, etc.
  • Liaise with the Finance Team and uphold accurate gift management practices as required by CRA, including the preparation of regular reconciliation reports and gift data during financial audits
Department Support & Administration - 20%

  • Organize and maintain the departmental digital files
  • Support the Events Manager with guest list management, logistics and ad hoc event preparation, prior to, during and post key Take a Hike signature events
  • Prepares briefs, reports, meeting packets, and other materials as needed
  • Assist with prospect and donor research when required
  • Handle other administrative duties for the department or organization as assigned
