Reporting to the Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) & Engagement+, People & Culture, you are a passionate, experienced subject matter expert regarding accessibility and EDI matters and also act as a team lead. You work closely and collaborate on an ongoing basis with accessibility peers and lead national accessibility work most notably with CBC and Radio-Canada and work with members of People & Culture teams such as Talent Management and HR Business Partners, and internal EDI and accessibility peers.

This is a temporary position for a period of 1 year.

More specifically, you will perform the following duties:
  • Lead and manage foundational work to ensure full adherence with the Accessible Canada Act legislation and regulations. Foundational work include: developing and chairing the national Accessibility Steering Committee and Accessibility Working Groups; establishing an internal and external consultation and feedback plan, identifying the Corporation's holistic accessibility current state; creating the Corporation's first accessibility national strategic framework, leading the Corporation in identifying key activities to bring our strategic framework to life, and; establishing the Corporation's first three-year national accessibility plan Breaking Barriers .
  • As CBC/Radio-Canada's national accessibility lead, provide consultative advice to all levels of the organization, including all members of our Senior Executive Team on a wide range of topics, from operational to strategic matters, covering content, workplace culture and workforce, with special focus on people with disabilities and the sustainable removal of barriers.
  • Lead a team in charge of the National Accessibility Plan implementation, the Rule on Accommodation and EDI reporting requirements (employment equity, multiculturalism, Board of Directors, etc.).
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of EDI strategies in line with the goals, philosophy and approach of the EDI & Engagement+ team and People & Culture. Everything you develop and deliver supports the overall three-year EDI strategy of CBC/Radio-Canada, which development and implementation is led by your director's team.
  • Identify, build and/or improve, and manage robust programs, resources and tools that reflect current research and knowledge related to hiring, retaining, engaging and developing employees from underrepresented groups, with particular emphasis on people with disabilities.
  • Implement EDI and accessibility change initiatives related to business processes, systems and technologies and drive adoption.
  • Represent the EDI & Engagement+ team and the Corporation with internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and credentials:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in EDI and/or accessibility.
  • Master's degree or master's level certificate in EDI or a related field is an asset.
  • 7 to 10 years related experience, including 5 years in EDI and/or accessibility, specifically in designing and delivering innovative solutions focused on hiring, retaining, promoting, developing and engaging employees, with dedicated focus on underrepresented groups and special attention to people with disabilities.
  • A strong belief in EDI as strategic differentiators, a passion for improving well-being through belonging, and the courage to navigate discomfort in order to achieve meaningful change;
  • Knowledge of EDI and accessibility issues, best practices and strategies.
  • Experience in the media industry is an asset.
  • Outstanding knowledge of Canadian federal, provincial and territorial laws related to people with disabilities and our obligations under those laws (i.e., Accessible Canada Act, Canadian Human Rights Act, Employment Equity Act, etc.);
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to explain complex information to all levels of the organization, including on a regular basis with the President and CEO, the Chief Transformation Officer and Senior Vice-President, People & Culture and the accessibility senior executive team member sponsor;
  • Proven capabilities in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Proven interest in everything related to organizational culture, workflow improvement and business innovation.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) essential.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
