Position Summary:

As part of Maple Leaf Food's manufacturing team, the 3rd Class Engineer will be a contributor to the efficient operation of the Central Utilities Program (CUP). The incumbent will operate the engineering systems in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with applicable Acts, Codes, Regulations, and Standards. Engineering systems include water (potable, sanitary, storm, etc.), compressed air, and steam and ammonia (NH3) refrigeration, boilers, and compressors.

Responsibilities:
  1. The incumbent will support the development of SOPs for the start-up of equipment and complete documents to ensure assigned asset numbers as installed, review manuals, and generate PM programs for installed equipment.
  2. Maintain, monitor, test, and log all steam generating requirements by operation code and establish operating parameters of equipment with setpoints.
  3. Complete routine plant inspections of the ammonia-refrigeration, boilers, and compressors and ensure that all systems are operating in a safe and expected manner.
  4. Interface with necessary contractual and inspection departments for corrective or legal requirements.
  5. Conduct work requests and apply corrective measures in a timely manner utilizing computerized maintenance system (including SAP).
  6. Follow all Health & Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, WHMIS, and MSDS policies or procedures.
  7. Participate in machinery rebuilds, installations, and repairs.
  8. Shall demonstrate full commitment to the implementation of the requirements of the Global Standard for Food Safety and to processes which facilitate continual improvement of food safety and quality management.
  9. Operate and maintain all building systems and equipment, including but not limited to, HVAC, cooling towers, emergency diesel generator, gas, steam, water, air system, plumbing, and electrical.
  10. Maintain all auxiliary equipment in accordance with governing standards, codes, and regulations.
  11. Monitor and control building operations through the Siemens Building Automation system.
  12. Perform preventative maintenance and regular repairs with minimum supervision.
  13. Adjust thermostats, valves, dampers, etc. to maintain desired conditions.
  14. Perform maintenance of mechanical equipment as outlined on the Preventative Maintenance Program including belt adjustments, lubrication, filter changes, etc.
  15. Oversee subordinate employees, contractors, and service personnel.
  16. Assist with other duties related to the position as assigned.
Education, Experience & Competency Requirements:

Must hold a valid certificate of qualification as a 3rd Class Operating (Stationary) Engineer. Consider the 4th class operating engineer who will obtain the 3rd class certificate in 2 years (the candidate should agree and sign the employment contract) if the person has the maintenance experience. Must have a complement of hand tools. Must have environmental and energy tracking and reporting knowledge. Able to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Knowledge of steam, compressed air, hot water, power boilers, and refrigeration systems. Willingness to obtain IMT. Experience in ammonia systems. Working knowledge of computer software and computerized maintenance systems such as SAP. Must be self-managed and able to set priorities among conflicting priorities. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Can work well in a team environment. Preference to the person with the dual ticket – G1; G2; millwright, electrician, instrumentation.
