Role Overview:
Instrumentation, Controls and Automation engineering for new carbon capture plants and first line of contact for existing plant technical support, reports to the Engineering Project Manager
This remote/field office position supports the operating plants as well as the core engineering/project teams in Carbon Upcycling Technologies.
The successful candidate will be the primary technical point of contact for the operating plants for technical support and adjustment of the running plant systems, as well as preparation and programming for new projects being built.
Operational and equipment automation and controls design deficiencies and corrective action opportunities.Develop, qualify external contractors, SMEs, and EPCM organizations for scopes of work related to current and future CUT processing plants around the world.
Be the lead engineering contact for plant operators for controls, automation and plant operational adjustments.Assist with oversight of EPCM service providers for new plants, provide input on the E/I/C/A engineering disciplines, and other technical inquiries.
Oversee all operating plant engineering initiatives such as preparing, management and execution of field tests, and reviewing/preparing results.Work with clients' operations teams to develop project delivery plans and create collaboration frameworks to achieve mutually determined objectives and timelines.
Collaborate with the site operations manager to direct and suggest appropriate modifications to the control of pneumatic, hydraulic, rotating equipment systems.
Working with different international vendors and suppliers, including developed and new vendor relationships.Preference given to those with a heavy industry engineering background with 7+ years of project and operating plant experience.
Deep field and/or practical experience with controls & automation equipment selection, programming, field troubleshooting, and operational fine tuning etc.
Willingness to take calculated risks, own up to mistakes, and rebound from setbacks.Key non-technical attributes we look for include self-awareness, ability to prioritize and delegate, and high performance in dynamically changing environments.
Strong ability to create a project action plan, take charge and direct resources to realize technical implementations from inception to completion.
Note:
this is a home office position but may require semi-frequent trips to operating plants.
Technical Qualifications
~ Electrical Engineer with proven experience with Instrumentation and Controls in relevant industry, or
~ Senior Instrumentation Technologist with ASET (or equivalent) designation in Instrumentation Technology (CET,RET,RPT).
~ 7+ years of experience in controls and automation equipment selection, software programming, operational troubleshooting with exposure to new plant development and commissioning. Demonstrated abilities to program with relevant plant control software Ie HMI, programming PLCs
~ Strong understanding of and field troubleshooting familiarity with Allen-Bradley components & PLC systems
~ Broad knowledge of I&C discipline including field instrument installation and commissioning, traditional/network control wiring designs, control system. hardware/software/interface/communication network installation and commissioning
~ Proven track record working successfully with EPCM contractors, suppliers, union labour, regulatory agencies, and owner's teams.
~ Operational and plant start up experience is essential.
