DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Leadership
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise the team in the garden center.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge to assist customers effectively.
  • Instruct Garden Centre associates on projects assigned by management.
  • Customer Service
  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer inquiries about plants, gardening supplies, outdoor furniture, and related products.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to help customers select appropriate products for their gardening needs. Offer guidance on proper usage and care of purchased products.
  • Aid in loading heavy or bulky items into customers' vehicles if required.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using the store's POS system. Handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods securely and efficiently.
  • Merchandising and Inventory Management
  • Assist in creating visually appealing displays and restocking products for Garden Centre merchandise displays.
  • Receive and price merchandise. Ensure all products are correctly labeled with prices and relevant information.
  • Check incoming merchandise against invoices to spot shortages, damaged goods, backorders, etc.
  • Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in taking annual inventory counts.
  • Unload incoming trucks as required, ensuring correct freight handling techniques are used.
  • Horticultural Knowledge
  • Plant Care: Water, prune, and maintain plants to ensure they are healthy and presentable for customers.
  • Identify and address plant health issues promptly.
  • Stay updated on the latest gardening trends, outdoor living products, and industry developments. Share knowledge with customers and colleagues to enhance overall expertise within the Garden Centre team.
  • Health and Safety
  • Ensure that all safety precautions are taken when loading and unloading trucks and items into customers' vehicles.
  • Comply with all health and safety guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of chemicals, fertilizers, and hazardous materials. Ensure safety protocols are followed during plant care and maintenance.
  • Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.

MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OUTSIDE IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong passion and knowledge of plants, gardening, and outdoor living products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting heavy bags of soil, plants, and outdoor equipment. Lift to 50lbs occasionally, 30lbs frequently, and 20lbs constantly.
  • Previous leadership, retail or customer service experience is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, especially during peak gardening seasons.

Salary:
Hourly wage of $ $ wages depending on experience.

Seasonal opportunities to start Mid-April and end early September. One (1) Full-time position available.
