***Reporting to the Director of Operations - Canada, the Production Manager carries out the day to day operations of the Plant. The position is responsible for ensuring all employees are working in accordance with Company safety, quality, production and housekeeping policies, procedures, and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a role model and an ambassador of the Company's culture of loyalty, integrity and resilience, while cultivating highperforming teams, and encourage teamwork through guidance and mentorship.
  • Ensure all employees in the assigned crew are properly trained to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Communicate daily priorities to Lead Hands and Charge Hands to ensure that production requirements are coordinated and there is adequate coordination between operating shifts.
  • Measure, monitor and report on key performance leading and lagging indicators to increase effectiveness and efficiencies:


Safety
  • department and plant wide metrics;
  • Quality ensure that products and services meet all quality standards and are ISO compliant and report rejects per shift;
  • Production monthly and daily productivity reports, machine speed, downtime.
  • Analyze operating costs regularly to ensure adherence to budget objectives and take corrective actions where necessary when variances occur.
  • Manage workforce to achieve production and shipping plans within the established cost parameters: make daily changes to the crewing plan based on attendance and machine downtime, i.e. OT, reassignments, etc.
  • Take an active part in the recruitment process and selection decisions for internal and external openings within the assigned area.
  • Conduct performance and talent reviews as per existing programs.
  • Address employee related issues and concerns in a timely and caring manner.
  • Handle formal union grievances at Step 1, escalate to Step 2 as needed within the timelines indicated in the Collective Agreement.
  • Execute plant shutdowns, including plant evacuation in the event of an emergency.
  • Cooperate with Customer Service, Production Planning and Shipping regarding details of production orders in process.
  • Initiate, develop and implement production improvements to enhance productivity and facilitate higher efficiencies.
  • Review proposals for major alterations to production methods, processes or facilities with the Engineering team and make appropriate recommendations to the Director, Operations
  • Canada.
  • Recommend items to be included in the annual capital budgets for the Richmond facility.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of production and inventory control systems and procedures.


Inform Director, Operations
  • Canada of problems or important matters relative to the Richmond facility.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 to 7 years of manufacturing experience with increasing responsibilities
  • Postsecondary courses related to Operations Management. A degree in Engineering is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Proven success at driving a strong safety culture into the workplace
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment
  • Lean manufacturing mindset. Formal Six Sigma training is a definite asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and planning skills
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of QAD in an integrated computer environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 policies and procedures
