Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager of Academic Accommodations, the Intake and Accommodation Coordinator is the first point of contact within Accessible Learning Centre (ALC) for students, Laurier faculty and staff, and third parties with inquiries about services and supports for students with disabilities.

Positioned on the Waterloo Campus, the incumbent will provide intake coordination and consulting support for both the Waterloo and Brantford campuses.

The incumbent advises on the university's legislative obligations and its policy for accommodating students with disabilities.

The Intake Coordinator and Accommodation Consultant supports students through the ALC registration process by advising them on the university's disability documentation requirements, appropriately soliciting information required to support registration, and linking them with accommodation consultants to facilitate the development of academic accommodation and support plans.


The Intake and Accommodation Coordinator designs and approves academic accommodation and support plans for students with disabilities and liaisons with faculty, staff, and administrators across the university to support their implementation.


Accountabilities:

Coordination and Connection

  • Respond to prospective and current students and others about the eligibility of requests for supports and services through the ALC.
  • Guide students transitioning to university or adjusting to a new disability as they navigate the registration process.
  • Connect with students, ALC staff, university personnel (e.g., staff in Health and Wellness), health care providers and other supporters to assess the level of immediacy of student requests and facilitate supports accordingly. Report any risk management concerns related to the student's request or its immediacy to the Manager as appropriate.
  • Assess eligibility for support through the ALC for students who do not have disability documentation, are awaiting documentation, or presenting with an urgent need. Approve and implement interim accommodations as appropriate.
  • Monitor the queue of students waiting for initial consultant appointments, assess immediacy of need, and facilitate interim accommodations as appropriate.
  • Coordinate student appointments with the ALC receptionist to ensure student flow from registration to initial consultant appointments is smooth and timely
  • Coordinate reminders and communications to registered students about upcoming deadlines (e.g., booking exam accommodations).
  • Support exam coordinators responding to requests for exam bookings received after published deadlines by facilitating communication with accommodation consultants, exam staff, and instructors as needed.

Disability Documentation Review

  • Review disability documentation for compliance with the university's disability documentation requirements to assess the student's eligibility for registration with the ALC. Documentation may include psychoeducational, neuropsychological, psychiatric, or medical assessments, university disability documentation forms, letters, or other reports.
  • Seek clarification from students and/or their issuing health professional about results or missing information.
  • Advise students when new or updated documentation is needed to support their request for services. Facilitate student re
