Avalon Sexual Assault Centre is seeking applicants for the position of Counselling Coordinator to support our province-wide sexual violence trauma therapy program.


Working within the Community Based Sexualized Violence Trauma Therapy Program (CB-SVTTP), the Counselling Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the coordination and integration of Avalon's expanded therapeutic counselling program.

As a team lead, the Counselling Coordinator will report directly to the Program Manager and work collaboratively with the Community Coordinator and Clinical Supervisors to oversee our provincial model for providing sexual violence trauma therapy for individuals across Nova Scotia.

We are seeking dynamic team members with a passion for delivering trauma-informed, culturally responsive, community-based support services for individuals impacted by sexualized violence.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate therapeutic counselling services in collaboration with the CB-SVTTP leadership team, including:
  • Lead in updating the therapeutic program framework
  • Lead in updating program policies and standards of practice
  • Assess therapists' professional development needs and identify opportunities for professional development training with the CB-SVTTP leadership team
  • Advise Program Manager on professional association code of ethics concerns as needed
  • Work collaboratively with the CB-SVTTP leadership team to:
  • Contribute to program design, data capture, evaluation and reporting initiatives
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategy
  • Provide daytoday leadership support to trauma therapists and intake staff, directing human resources matters to the Program Manager as required
  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen interagency relationships and referrals
  • Coordinate and facilitate programwide meetings and events
  • Represent CB-SVTTP in meetings with partners in community and/or government
  • Provide trauma counselling for a maximum case load of five (5) clients, including:
  • Complete initial consultation sessions with those seeking services
  • Provide individual therapeutic counselling sessions for clients in alignment with CB-SVTT program policies and standards
  • Record and maintain formal client records in accordance with professional college and CB-SVTT program requirements
  • Participate in regular individual supervision and teem peer consultation sessions
  • Ensure therapy skills remain up to date in accordance with professional college requirements through participating in training, workshops, webinars, online courses, and reading
  • Onboarding and training of new CB-SVTTP staff as needed
  • Provide backup support to the CB-SVTTP Intake Staff as needed
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Other duties as required

Qualification Requirements

  • Graduate level degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychotherapy or Psychology
  • 3+ years of experience providing clinical sexual violence trauma therapy
  • 2+ years of experience in program coordination and/or team leadership in a nonprofit setting
  • Registered in good standing with their provincial professional regulatory association (i.e., Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists, Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, or Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology)
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience preparing and submitting reports to supervisor, Board, funders and/or community
  • Strong knowledge of local and provincial community organizations, services, and systems to facilitate referrals, collaboration, and networking
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to and understanding of antioppressive, antiracist, feminist, and relational values

Psychological Demands

  • Working with clients and/or supporting those working with clients who are at different stages of emotional healing and recovery
  • Exposure to systems causing retraumatization and secondary harm
  • Exposure to vicarious trauma impacts due to inherent risks associated with providing direct services to individuals who have experienced sexualized violence

Hours: 35 hours/week (Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30 pm OR 9:00am to
