Why is this role important?

  • The Bilingual Proofreading Assistant proofreads French and English documents according to industry and CIHI standards.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Under the guidance of the Team Lead, Editing and members of the editing team, proofreads simple documents (mainly French) on screen using Word and PDF. Identifies typographical, spelling and grammatical errors, as well as differences between the source text and the laidout text, and between the English and French documents. Seeks guidance when there are questions about content or language.
  • 2. Works towards proofreading 7 to 10 pages per hour. Prioritizes work as directed by the Team Lead, Editing and keeps the lead up to date on progress of work in relation to assigned timelines.
  • 3. Submits all proofreading work for quality control and applies feedback received to future work to ensure continuous improvement.
  • 4. Contributes to research and discussions about linguistic and typographical standards.
  • 5. Supports the editing team in daytoday activities and projects as directed.
  • What you'll bring to the table
  • High school diploma plus one to two years of formal education, preferably in a language related field.
  • French and English bilingualism is required, with excellent knowledge of syntax, usage, spelling, formatting and typographical rules.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
