Midland Transport Limited has become a leader in the transportation industry by providing superior quality service to our customers. Our services include LTL, T/L, and Courier Services and provide the convenience of one-stop shopping.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety and Environment, the Safety Advisor will support sites within the Ontario and Quebec region to launch safety programs, help with investigations, support internal and external audits, and ensure compliance of sites to the Canada Labour Code and Midland Health and Safety policies.
They will work closely with Terminal Managers, safety stewards and frontline staff to help find the root cause of incidents, develop solutions to safety concerns, identify and assist with training needs, communicate industry best practices, and help guide Midland Transport Limited to a world class safety performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate current Health, Safety and Environment programs and practices for effectiveness, and help with improvements where necessary
- Assist with implementing and conducting internal audits which will cover all aspect of Midland's Health, Safety and Environment program.
- Assist or lead Taproot investigations to determine the root cause of incidents and develop corrective actions
- Tracking of key KPIs related to Midland's Environmental Health and Safety strategy for sites in the region.
- Implement and execute Environmental Health and Safety Programs that inspire a world class safety culture.
- Drive their results in areas of Health, Safety and the Environment.
- Guide, coach and develop frontline managers and supervisors to create a strong safety culture.
- Actively involved in all aspects of compliance, ensuring the organization is fully compliant with all relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements relating to environment, health and safety.
- Ensure Safety Programs result in meeting or exceeding targets to deliver best in class performance.
- Ensure training plans for safety and safety compliance are met.
- Promote, educate and communicate best practices in the areas of health, safety and environment.
Qualifications:
- Community College Program Diploma or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- CRSP designation or working towards CRSP designation preferred.
- 25 years of experience in a related field.
- Experience with Microsoft edge (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
- Ability to conduct audits and assessments based on recognized standards and/or best practices.
- Strong research, analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Root Cause Investigation Training.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Previous transportation experience is an asset.
- Understanding of Intelex or other safety systems is an asset.
