Position Overview


As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide a range of supportive interventions for students who exhibit self-regulation, social, emotional, physical, and/or medical needs.

Your leadership and ability to interact with your peers is supported by cultural and ability sensitivity, and related experience supporting people with disabilities.


In keeping with the goals of our corporate strategic plan and department business strategy, the Specialized Program Instructor - Behaviour & Inclusion Specialist - will be responsible for providing program support to participants in the City's Summer Camp programs.

Times and days may vary based on the program and participant requirements but is based on a day camp schedule with approximate hours of 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday to Friday during the months of July and August.

This position reports to the Assistant Programmer - Leadership, Inclusion and Volunteers. Travel within Burlington may be required of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Conflict resolution and supporting individual participants with behavioural needs
  • Assisting with personal care requirements of participants in program which may include supporting with physical demands of hygiene, toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, and transferring children and equipment.
  • Engaging with staff on conflict resolution practices and coaching through behaviour management principles
  • Providing feedback on the programs
  • Providing outstanding customer service
  • Adhering to preestablished risk management practices
  • Coaching and mentorship of Program Leaders in relation to behaviour management strategies, and program modifications.

Requirements:

The incumbent will also be responsible for presenting the following qualifications:

  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Position will require occasional travel around Burlington. Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Behaviour Management Systems Training and Lifts and Transfers training will be provided.
