Outside Sales Manager-Building Materials/Decking and Railing
The Decking and Railing Outside Sales Manager (OSM) is responsible for leading a team of outside salespeople to launch and grow profitable sales of Decking, Railing and Outdoor Structures (DR&OS) within their assigned Region.
The OSM provides leadership and support to their team by being present in the field for joint sales calls, relationship building, prospecting, value creation, and training.
The OSM is also responsible for ensuring the profitable sales growth of the DR&OS category in the entire Region including branches that do not have dedicated DR&OS salespeople.
The OSM must be able to work across all levels of the company and region regardless of reporting structure to accomplish strategic goals.
The purpose of this position is to create value added focus, support and leadership that results in profitable sales growth in the DR&OS category.
The nature of this work requires the OSM to spend at least 75% working in the field and branch.Accountabilities:
- Take a leadership role in setting sales and margin goals for branch/area o Expand and diversify the customer base o Launch, grow and expand DR&OS product offerings to be a complete source for the customers
- Work with Regional Manager to create and execute short and long-term sales plans that are measurable and have a clear objective o Communicate with clarity the plans and objectives with each DROSA and BRM. Establishing consensus, a sense of ownership and expectations for the team.
- Joint sales calls with field sales team to visit customers and provide on-the-job training
- Perform hands-on product knowledge and value proposition training for associates and customers
- Market analysis and sales strategy development
- Provide Sales Support and product expertise to customers as well as Master Halco associates
- Develop solid relationships with and the help of additional internal and external resources when needed including Manufactures and
Distributors Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, coach and lead Outside Sales Associates and other sales associates as assigned and required
- Use STEPS training program to create value for associates and customers o The RDROSM must become a STEPS program expert with the ability to lead, train and coach associates using the program
- Conduct on-the-job training with their team to train, provide value which is customer serving
- Build long-lasting business relationships with key target DR&OS customers and sell products
- Inspire and motivate their sales team to produce results at a high level
- Ensures salespeople are aware of all available sales tools and resources
- If opportunities arise to sell non-DR&OS products such as fencing arise, facilitate sales and or hand off to the appropriate salesperson
Essential Qualifications:
- Excellent face-to-face sales, training, and presentation skills with both small and large groups
- Driven and results-oriented
- Ability to support sales teams in new product expansion to meet company targets
- Ability to work with all levels of personnel within the organization
- Creative problem solver with hands on engagement and solid business acumen
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively motivate and support the sales team
- Effective strategic thinking and tactical execution
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage problems into solutions
- Creative as well as critical thinking
- Soft skills include organization, strong communication skills, leadership, time management, and multi-tasking
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
